Over Dyed
Over-dyed rugs start as antique or vintage Oriental rugs — pieces with genuine hand-knotted foundations, natural wool, and decades of history. They’re then submerged in a single bold dye bath, which washes out the original color palette and replaces it with something striking: deep teal, rich wine, saturated cobalt, dusty rose.
The original pattern remains visible as a tonal variation within the new color — ghosted geometry or florals that give the rug visual depth a solid-color rug doesn’t have. The result is a piece that works in contemporary interiors but carries the weight and texture of authentic construction.
The quality of an over-dyed rug depends entirely on what you start with. Low-quality machine-made rugs don’t improve with dyeing — the construction is still poor. At Boga Rugs, we select pieces with sound foundations, good pile density, and construction that justifies the process. You’re buying an antique rug with a new wardrobe, not a cheap rug with a coat of paint.
Over-dyed pieces tend to move quickly. The combination of bold color and authentic construction appeals to people who want visual impact without sacrificing quality. If you see something in the gallery you want to hold, call us.
