Square Rugs
Square rugs are genuinely hard to find in hand-knotted quality. Most Oriental rug production follows rectangular formats — the loom setup, the standard room dimensions, and the export market have all historically favored 5×8, 8×10, and 9×12. A well-proportioned square piece in good condition is a find.
The use cases are specific and worth knowing. A square rug under a round dining table creates a visual relationship between the rug and the furniture that a rectangle can’t — the geometry reinforces itself. A square piece in a foyer with equal-width walls anchors the space without directing traffic. In a square bedroom, a square rug under the bed can feel more resolved than a rectangle that’s either too short or overhanging.
We currently carry 14 square rugs in the gallery, ranging from small accent sizes to room-sized pieces. Dimensions are listed exactly on each product page — “square” in the rug trade often means approximately square, and we’ll tell you the actual measurements rather than rounding.
If you’ve been looking for a square piece for a specific application and haven’t found it elsewhere, contact us. We know what’s coming into inventory before it goes online.
